Overview
Secret Shadows is murder mystery case, that is going to be littered with clues, that will thrill all those playing it. It consists of 3 rounds, with technical and non-technical clues and hints to allow people of all years and departments to solve it. There are rounds that test your case solving abilities as well as your puzzle solving skills.
Rules and Regulations:
- This is a college wide event; people of circuit and non-circuit branches are welcome to play
- Each round is timed, but the entire event is meant to be about 4-5 hours long.
- Team size limited to 4-5 people per team.
- Each round will take about 30 to 45 mins.
- Volunteers (for the technical and non-technical part) are estimated to be about 30-40 (of all years in the department).
- We plan to use the Cyber Security and AIML labs (for the 2nd round) but no internet or phones will be allowed to use.
- A crime scene will be set up and a murder board is to be prepared by the participating teams.
- Each team should preferably have a technical person.
Judge Criterion:
-
Round 1: The first round is going to have 20 suspects (all according to the story that will
be set up around the murder scene)
This will be displayed on the board as it would be common for all.
Each team is going to be given the same set of clues that are going to link them to the murder suspects. Top 10-15 days Teams that are able to crack down 10 murder suspects the fastest will qualify to the next round.
This is going to allow technical and the non-technical groups to collaborate and crack the code. -
Round 2: Once the top 10-15 teams are established, we move on to a more technical round; the
debugging round
Before that each team will be provided with a set of hints and pictures to help build their own murder board. They will be assigned rooms or locations to do it within the CRD building itself
Each team will be assigned a code to debug. There are two programming languages on which the debugging codes will be based off of i.e. python and C language
Upon debugging they will come across a password hint or password it self that will be used to unlock a locked digital file on the PC.
This digital file will consist of the case file related to the murder and the suspects as well.
We also plan to have a physical copy of the file to independently build their murder without being in the confines of the lab/ doing it in their designated spot.
After this the first 8 to debug and bring down the number of suspects from 10 to 6 within the period of time will move on to the next round
-
Round 3: In the final round they will be allowed to explore the murder room, for a limited
period of time (about 5-7 mins) twice and observe the room carefully to gather any clues possible
and find out the murder weapon
The teams will enter the murder room in the order of the completion in the second round.
In the time period of 30 mins, we will be releasing 3 clues (about 8-10 mins apart) that could be clue.
The team that finishes the murder first will be deemed the winner and will be awarded the first prize and further more 2nd and 3rd place will also be determined in a similar manner.
